Cuppd note

Burundi is one of the most underrated origins in specialty coffee. The Red Bourbon varietal — grown here at genuine altitude on volcanic soils — produces a flavour profile that sits between Ethiopian florality and Kenyan intensity: structured, fruit-forward, and cleanly defined. Muyinga in particular sits in the northeast, bordering Rwanda and Tanzania, with some of the highest-altitude growing conditions in the country.

What makes this lot distinctive is Origin's transparency: they're one of very few UK roasters publishing the FOB price paid on the product page itself. That's not just a sourcing story — it's a signal about the quality of the relationship, and by extension the quality of the selection.

How to brew it

Best method

V60 / Pour Over

Temperature
93°C

Medium-fine
Ratio
1:15

Washed Red Bourbon at this altitude is built for filter clarity. 3-minute brew time.

Also great

Chemex

Medium-coarse
Ratio

Slightly heavier body than V60 — rounds out the rhubarb edge and lets the dark chocolate finish through.
